Maximo Park - Quicken The Heart

It doesn't seem that long since Our Earthly Pleasures came out but it has been around 2 years!!

Starting with Wraithlike this is a good noisy opener that has a really cool air raid siren like sample during the chorus. Not as frantic as say Our Velocity.

The Penultimate Clinch is another less frantic track and it isn't that memorable. First single The Kids Are Sick Again is another track that goes by without having anything memorable in but it is the best track so far. A Cloud of Mystery reminds me of Maximo Park's older material albeit a bit slower but it is a good track. Calm has excellent use of keyboards in it and it kinda reminds me of The Cure. In Another World is one of my favourite tracks and sounds like a potential single. Let's Get Clinical is another of my favourites and the drums and bass combine to make a really catchy rhythm. Roller Disco Dreams sounds like Bloc Party wrote it but it is again another very catchy track. Tanned, Questing Not Coasting, Overland West of Suez and I Haven't Seen Her in Ages close the album and they are all okay tracks but they just sound so similar.

It takes the first 5 tracks before the album gets going as they are slower tracks and the remainder of the album is more uptempo. Unfortunatly due to me only enjoying the second part of the album I will only award this

6 out of 10 but there are some really good tracks on this, Roller Disco Dreams is one of their best tracks in my opinion but there are just too many skipworthy tracks and a lot of the tracks just blur together with the same tempo.
