- Each team provides an official to help score the game.
- Matches played in round robin format
- In the league, three points will be awarded for a won game, two points for a draw and one point for a loss.
- Each team member will propel a ball twice in any one end.
- It will be endeavoured to play each game over a minimum of three ends dependent on the time available. This will be decided by the Boccia coordinator on the day.
Sports Rules
- Boccia is a game similar to bowls where each team's objective is to try and position their balls as close to the target ball (jack) as possible.
- Each competitor will have a maximum of two balls each even when a team consists of one, two or three players.
- All competitors must be seated.
- To play the ball a player throws, rolls or kicks the ball. An assistive device may be used if required.
- To try and promote fairness across the disability groups a minimum of one competitor per team MUST use the assistive device.
- The first designated player (red team) throws the target ball then propels their first ball as close to the target ball as possible.
- The following player (blue team) then propels their first ball. If the ball is closer to the target ball than the red opposition ball, the turn passes to the next player (red team). If the ball is further away, then the player continues to play his second ball. If the second ball (blue) is closer than the original red ball then the 2nd player in the red team will have the next go. If the second ball (blue) is still further away from the first red ball then the next go will be passed to the 2nd player in the blue team. The red team will only regain play when a blue ball is situated closer to the target ball or when all the blue balls have been played.
- When all balls are played the score is counted.
- All team balls situated nearer the target ball than the closest opposing team balls, will receive one point. If two or more balls of different colours are situated exactly the same distance from the target ball, each team is given one point.
- The playing area will be approximately 6m wide by 10m long.
The competition is open to individuals and teams (young people and adults). If you are interested in taking part please contact Christian Chow on (01946) 839308 or email christianc@lakescollegewestcumbria.ac.uk
